Audio Tone Adjustment

P

PM

I wish to adjust the tone (bass/treble etc.) settings on the Master Output
(NOT JUST ON INDIVIDUAL PLAYERS) from my Sound Card/PC, as the normal
Bass/Treble controls are blanked-out in the Advanced section of my volume
controls.
Is there any Freeware available that will help me achieve this, or has
anybody got any other suggestions that will assist me.

Thanks in advance

Run your computer's sound output into a standard stereo receiver or
integrated amplifier (you can pick up a used one). It'll have tone
controls. In fact, a humane one will have nice round knobs -- the kind
intended to be operated by people rather than robots.

Non I'm afraid. For me, the removal of Bass/Treble is a massive step
backwards as I now spend an hour pratting about with a 10 band
equaliser to achieve what took me a couple of seconds with Bass/Treble.

Sorry. XP Pro & VIA AC'97 (if that means anything to you).

Yeah, you did.
But I'm not being silly. I'm an audio professional. It's a method that I
use and it's a solution, even if not exactly what you posted (some
posters aren't certain of what they want). Sorry if my suggestion made
you angry.

No, I don't know of any solution that is _precisely_ what you want.

Exactly. Digital controls can be user-hostile. Ultra hostile, in fact.
As, my Hyundai car has got a fake mechanical volume control; the radio
turns itself on when I hit bumps (a known problem). And, of course, you
nailed it. When it comes to usability, knobs are way cool.

I gave the poster a reasonable alternative solution and he replied with
an insult. Ya can never tell who'se at the other end of the net.

I discovered that my PC, while a decent bargain, didn't have a sound
card that would allow bass & treble...so now I have to go buy one.
(one of my player programs had an error message explaining why the
controls didn't work) It's bot a REAL big deal for me, but I wish
they'd told me.

My bass/treble controls are blanked out too and I am rather surprised that
nobody made a simple bass/treble tone control program. However I get
excellent results by linking up to my regular stereo equipment as someone in
this thread suggested. None-the-less I would still like a simple tone
control program as I do not always want my big stereo on.

At last! Someone who actually thinks the same as me.
I do have my PC fixed up to my stereo, and I also have headphones connected
to the PC, which I prefer.
However the bass needs reducing on the phones, and a simple program like you
say would do the trick......
I know some players like the Windows Media Player have Graphic Controls, but
it seems pointless only being able to make the adjustments on one of my PC's
sound sources.
I thank everyone for their advice on alternatives outside of the PC, but if
that's what I'd needed I wouldn't have posted in the first place.
