Audio problems

ok, I have an HP Pavillion dv9000 and it uses speakers that are built into
the laptop.
I have checked the manfacturer's box for the name of the speakers but I
couldn't find them. The speakers will play system sounds, but NONE of the
other sounds.
Windows media player - can't hear it
Youtube - can't hear it
any CD-ROM Game - cant hear it

Please help

Right click My COmputer and choose manage.

Scroll down to system tools > device manager. Are there any devices with a
yellow question mark or red cross listed on them?

Have you gone to the HP site and doownloaded the sound / multimedia drivers
for that machine?

When you say system sounds do you mean the windows startup or the internal
sounding mechanical "beep"?

Also, double click on the speaker icon on the system tray.
Make sure there are not check marks in the mute areas.
