Audio is Distorted on Auto Slide Transition

I'm preparing a power point presentation and I have short sound clips at the beginning of most slides (transition effects actually) but most of them are distorted. When I played them while still on the internet they played fine, but when I download them and play them as part of the presentation they are distorted and somewhat garbled. Any suggestions?

what format? what bitrate ? and do you have the right codecs ?
