Slide Transition

I am using PowerPoint 2003. I have a ppt that I want to use a cd song as my
background during the whole presentation. When I add it to the first slide,
configure the transition, then play the presentation, it will never go past
the first slide. The song will play, but it will not transition. If I Edit
Effects, and just pick one of the wav files and remove the cd song, it will
transition just fine. What am i doing wrong?
