Audio driver is enabled but has not been "started"

I have recently reformatted my computer's harddrive and reinstalled Windows
XP Home Edition. Now, my computer does not have the capability to play any
sound with an error message always relating to a problem with my sound
device. In the device manager, all my sound devices (which include Creative
SB Audigy 2 (WDM), Legacy Audio Drivers, and SoundMAX Integrated Digital
Audio) are "Enabled" and reported as "working properly" under the General tab
in the Properties dialog. When I move to the Properties tab next to the
General tab, select Audio Devices, and then click the Properties button,
every single one has the Status of "Status: Driver is enabled but has no been
started." How can I "start" the devices?

After installing win did you use either the drivers cd supplied with your
sys, or visit the hardware manu sites, or PC site if a major OEM eg Dell, or
Laptop manu site to download/install all the device drivers or did you rely
on winupdate?

You should disable the on-board sound chip thru the BIOS,leaving only
creative,
xp will/would install that auto. The reason xp will for creative but not
soundmax
is creative has gone thru WHQL,& the drivers are signed, powermax (realtec),
does not use microsoft WHQL.Once creative is running, you could then reinable
soundmax thru the BIOS,then in xp,download the software/drivers,or install
from the cd....If xp lets you.
