I am having problems with playing sound. I cannot select my soundcard as an audio device. I even recently purchased a new soundcard because I thought there was a compatibility problem, but I am still unable to play any sounds.

If you motherboard has on-board sound you will need to disable it in your
BIOS setup. This can provoke conflicts for Windows.
Start/Control Panel/Sounds, Speech..../Sounds and Audio Devices/Hardware tab/troubleshoot. Or,............
Start/Control Panel/Performance and Maintenance/System/Hardware tab/Device Manager/check Sound, video and game controllers
At boot-up, when you turn the PC on, press the DEL key (above the direction
arows) or F10 on some PC's. You'll need to navigate in the BIOS settings
yourself - it depends which make of BIOS you have. Search for On-Board Sound
and make sure its disabled. Save the settings and re-boot. Your PCI sound
card should then show up.

Jerry
