Audio Chat With MSN Messenger

DJ

The audio wizard shows that the microphone and speakers are configured
correctly.
Audio is recorded correctly using the sound recorder.
The microphone works correctly with all other programs, and seems to show
volume being picked up in msn messenger (the green line moves up and down) ,
however no sound is received by any of my contacts when I try to use audio
chat with Messenger.
Running XP home Edition or XP pro.
On an Asus P4C800-E Deluxe Mother Board
Using the on board sound AC'97 6.1 Audio, or using a Sound Blaster Audigy
5.1 sound card.
I've tried both regular and USB microphones.
I've tried several versions of Msn and Windows Messenger, with no luck
Several versions of drivers have been tried for all devices up to the
latest. With no luck.
I know it can work because it has before with this hardware, yet I can
not figure out what to try next to restore this feature.
If anyone can suggest a fix , it would be greatly appreciated

.

if your on a router/network..normally only one person can
use the voice at a time with msn..you would have to then
go into the router settings and make your ip address the
main one for sending audio through messenger..

this is just and idea

I have the very same problem. I have also tried both standard and usb mikes
to no avail. I spent two weeks on the phone with DELL on this subject, but
they could never solve it. Sure would love to use my Windows messenger with
a mike.

My mike works fine with all my other programs as well as my telephone
software over the modem. It just does not want to work over my cable modem.
(By the way, COMCAST assures me there is nothing in their high speed cable
modem that could be the problem...)

Good luck to us all,
SirLar

What sort of router setting would that be? Does it say something obvious
like "enable audio" or is it something more esoteric?

Hi Andrew,
The problem that DJ has in broadcasting audio thru Messenger remains even
if he is the only computer hooked directly to the cable modem. He can send
and receive video. He can receive audio, but can not send audio.
He has had two computers connecting to the internet thru a router, able to
voice chat, even with each other and at the same time, for several years
now. They are not configured as a home network and both have there own
static IP address
He and I can still hear the other PC fine.
I believe it may be a problem with his system and the newest version of Msn
Messenger 6.1(6.1.0211).
Is there somewhere he can still download the Original release of Msn
Messenger 6.1 and try it?

I had exactly the same problem after a recent reinstall
of WinXP. The fix was to uncheck the QoS Packet
Scheduler in the properties of the network card (Control
Panel>network connection (right click on the NIC)
properties. This cleared it up for me. Messenger uses
UPnP which uses a bunch of ports to go through a rounter,
therefore you need a UPnP router.
