Audio cd will not play

Attempted to install Service Pack 2(XP home ) but received message stating
Service Pack 2 did not fully install and I should uninstall Service Pack 2.
After doing this, discovered that the CD ROM will not play an audio cd, data
cd works fine. The DVD drive works fine for both audio and data cds. Tried
doing a system restore and cannot restore to any previous date. Any ideas?

ideas?

No sound? Check the analog cable that connects from the CD drive to the
mainboard or sound card (usually gray with black connectors on each
end). Check the speakers. Doesn't play cd at all? Check to make sure
sound card audio drivers are installed correctly.
