Unable to play Audio CD

M

Mike Brearley

I have a laptop with a dvd+-rw/cdrw combo drive in it. I can read data
CD's, play movie DVD's etc... everything works except playing audio CD's.
I've tried store bought audio cd's and ones created from another computer,
nothing works. XP isn't even detecting that a CD is in the drive, let alone
an audio CD.

Any ideas? I tried upgrading to Windows Media Player 11 to see if that
would help, but it didn't.

Posted as-is. Any spelling and/or grammar mistakes are a direct result of a
communication glitch between my brain and my fingers which may or may not be
directly related to a lack of caffeine intake.

Hi Mike

Do you play games at all on your laptop? This sort of issue is often a
result of the anti-copying malware Starforce, that is unfortunatley
often bundled with PC games.
