Attendee calendars not showing up (grey striped bar) in Scheduling

This is a recurring issue. For example, I scheduled an appointment and some
of the attendees names were recognized (reformatted after I typed them into
the Scheduling tab), but the chart out to the right displayed a grey
diaganolly striped bar as if I entered an unknown attendee. I checked with
an attendee and I don't think he had logged in yet this morning. After I
knew he was logged in, I checked the appointment and sure enough, I could see
his appointments now. I then closed and reopened the appointment, and while
I don't see the grey striped bar, I can only see his busy time as the
appointment I scheduled, the rest of the bar appears to be available. He
showed me his calendar and that is not the case. I'm assuming this is some
sort of Outlook/Exchange behavior that is expected, but can anybody fill me
in on why it does this and how it can be avoided?

Try clicking Add Others bottom left corner instead of just typing their name
and make sure to find them on the Global Address List.

I tried using the "Add Others" option but that didn't change the behavior.
I'm confident it found the correct users even when I typed them in as last
name, first name because our directory has a suffix on the individuals name
of the division they're in (which I did not type), and that was part of the
reformatted text. My network admin suggested a setting in Office 03 for
caching the calendar. He said he wasn't sure where it was and after scouring
Outlook I didn't find anything like that.
