After install of XP SP2 (HP-Compaq laptop), I am unable to open any kind of
html format object. Whether an html formatted email in Outlook, home page in
Internet Explorer, etc. The application just closes with no error, no event
log error. If attempt to open .html file via Windows Explorer, get a cannot
find file error, yet can open it in Edit mode (Front Page opens it).

Any ideas? Have been through 3 cycles of installing SP2 and had to remove
it each time.

To repair all system files, go to Start/Run, and type: SFC /SCANNOW

Mark,

Thank you for your response.

I am currently not at SP2, as I had to remove it to get anything working.
Can I run the SFC util now, or after I install SP2 again?

Mark,

Ran SFC while still at SP1

Nothing reported. Ran flawlessly.

Thanks - Any other ideas??

Ramesh and Mark,

Thanks for taking the time to reply. Sounds like my issue is a trial and
error troubleshooting path. Which is ok. Just need to have the period of
time to install, apply offered solutions, and uninstall if none work. This
is a work computer and cannot be down for long. Having SP2 without being
able to open html/htm formatted objects, really puts me dead in the water, as
far as being able to continue use of my laptop. My only solution is to
uninstall SP2 to be able to continue working. Whole evolution of installing,
testing and uninstalling is a few hours. But thanks again for all your
suggestions.
