Attaching .ppt to email from presentation

There is no problem with the saving of the file. It is being saved as a
PowerPoint 1997-2003 (.ppt). The problem is not the saving and viewing of
the file. I am more concerned with the fact that when I open a saved .ppt
file in PowerPoint 2007 and send to email, the file extension is changed to
..pptx and the file name is changed. Has anyone had any of these issues also?

Hi,

I can't reproduce it here. When I open a presentation (it opens in
compatibility mode) and send it stays as a ppt file. It could be that the
file is getting automatically converted when you open?

I can't get it to reproduce here.I tried with a presentation that was
originally created in an earlier version of PowerPoint and also with a
presentation created in 2007 and saved as an earlier version, and both tries
resulted in the .PPT extension being attached to the email. Have you tried
the Diagnose and Repair in PowerPoint?

In the interim, saving the presentation as an earlier version, and manually
attaching it to an email would still work.

When you say saving it in an earlier version are you talking about Office
2003 or saving it as 1997-2003 compatible? If you mean using an earlier
version of Office, then it cannot be done since Office 2007 is the only
option on the PC. We have been saving it as 1997-2003 compatible format
(.ppt).

I have tried the Diagnose and Repair in Power Point. The problem still
occurs. This has happened on at least three end users PCs. Security is
different on all three user profiles.

I am certain that it is an issue with Power Point as I can attach the file
directly from Windows Explorer and it will attach fine. When sending to mail
(Lotus Notes) using the send to option in Power Point, it changes the file
name and changes the extension from .ppt to .pptx. Has anyone been able to
reproduce this issue?

The files are being saved as 1997-2003. I have even tried a file created
with either Power Point XP or Power Point 2003 and when sending it to Lotus
Notes the file extension was changed to .pptx and the file name was changed.

I ran into this same problem. Created a set of slides. Clicked the upper-left icon to do a SAVE. Gave it a name without providing the extension. It was saved as a .pptx file which could then not be opened by a friend who received it in an email. I then had to do a SAVE-AS into 2003 format in order for my friend to be able to view it.

Why is MS doing this!!!! Ticks me off big time. It should be very
intuitive to (a) know that there are new extensions; (b) give me the option
of selecting them; (c) show the extensions in the total file name - which it
does not do even when I select the view "Details"; and (d) NOT automatically
go to some new format without prompting the user.

I mentioned files already existing in 1997-2003 powerpoint .
THE UPDATED 2007 do not open then!
