Attaching .ppt to email from program

When attaching .ppt file directly from PowerPoint, the file is attached as a.
pptx and the file name is changed. If attaching the file to email from
Windows Explorer the file name and extension stay the same. I have searched
high and low for a resolution to this, as most of our users like to attach
the file directly from the program itself. Any help?

You have PowerPoint 2007 which defaults to .pptx. Most people can't read a
..pptx file, it's too new. You can click on the icon at top left and choose
Save As. Save it as a PowerPoint 97-2003 and save it somewhere. That saves
it as a .ppt file. I always go there and change the suffix from .ppt to
..pps. That insures the recipient can view it by double clicking it if they
have either PowerPoint program or just the Viewer. If you send it as a .ppt
and the recipient has the PowerPoint Program it will open the PowerPoint
program and they have to choose to view the slide show. If they only have
the Viewer it doesn't matter whether you send it as a .ppt or a .pps.
Sending it as a .pps file insures everyone will view the program by simply
running the attachment.

There is no problem with the saving of the file. It is being saved as a
PowerPoint 1997-2003 (.ppt). The problem is not the saving and viewing of
the file. I am more concerned with the fact that when I open a saved .ppt
file in PowerPoint 2007 and send to email, the file extension is changed to
..pptx and the file name is changed. Has anyone had any of these issues also?
