Attach file in outlook

i am using Outlook 2000. i attached a .doc or .xls file in an email and send
out. The receiver received the email with .dat file but not the correct file
type (.doc or .xls) that they supposed to get. Please help

You are sending using Rich Text Format to someone who is not using Outlook!
(Probably.....) - change your email format to either Plain Text or HTML and
see if that works.
