ATI with Samsung LCD TV

Hi,

One of my old machines was lying around with a 9600 Pro card...so I
thought I'd hook it up to my Samsung 26" LCD Tv...
Well, after hooking up the VGA cable and the audio cable, everything
seems to be quite good except for the fact that there are lines on my
display...
So the display is not as clear as it should be and the lines (which
are slightly slantingly horizontal) are constantly moving, like a bad
VHS tape. It's not that bad that things are unclear but its pretty
bad.

When I connect my IBM Thinkpad to the TV using the same VGA cable, the
display is crystal clear.

I have tried various settings using ATI Tray Tools and the ATI CCC.
Nothing seems to work but when I go into the Sync options...if I
select Composite Sync, things tend to get a bit worse. However,
nothing happens when I select Horizontal or Vertical sync.

I would really like to get my computer connected to the TV. If anyone
can offer any help, I would really appreciate it.

Thanks a lot :)

Sounds like a electric ground loop problem. One way a friend solved it was
hooking up a screen and the PC to different power outlets. So it's not the
cable that's the main problem it's that "ground" is at different voltage
levels in the PC and the LCD-TV.

Do correct me if I'm wrong.

Thats a great idea. In fact, I was kind of suspecting that the power
had something to do with it and was going to attach the UPS to a
different power source to see if something was wrong.

Why I say this is because when I was attaching the VGA cable to the
TV, it kind of gave a little spark, even when the PC was turned off.

Um...now that I read what I have written, I see I have no clue what
I'm talking about.

But I'll try and attach them to different power sources and see what
happens :)

I am also thinking of attaching the VGA cable to the DVI port on the
card using a VGA to DVI converter.

I'll report back on what happens.

Thanks for the help :)

Hi..

Well...
I tried changing the power source and everything. It didn't work.
Then I tried connecting the cable to the DVI port and did various
stuff. It didn't work.

I do remember that I installed the Intel Chipset drivers. It still
didn't work.

So I gave up and let it be.
In the meantime, I connected my IBM Thinkpad and the display was
beautiful. Crystal clear.
Well I had actually given up all hope and just let the system be.

A few hours later, I just sort of tried it one last time before
removing it...and it WORKED!! :)
I don't know what happened or how it worked...but it just did..

Maybe due to the installation of Intel Chipset drivers...I don't
know..

Anyway...
just wanted to say thanks a lot for all the help :)

I got that when I put a 7 ft extension on my SyncMaster 930B LCD displays.
The extension cable was a cheap one from Staples.
I when to a specialty store and had them make a full high quality cable with
ferrites on either end and they work fine now.
Try that.

Thanks...
That's a good thought..
I got a cheap 2m extension cable...2m is around 6 ft, so it sounds
about right..
I think its most probably due to that...although it seems to be
working fine right now, touch wood :)

Thanks for your help. It kind of also confirmed one of the doubts I
had about the cable..
