ATI RMA Turn Around Time?

B

Greetings!

I just sent in a new video card under warranty, for replacement or
repair, at the discretion of ATI. I was wondering what others have
experienced regarding their turn around time? How long did it take for
you card to come back? ATI claims it tries for 10 working days.

Also were you all happy with the repairs or replaced video cards?

Thanks!

Very quick - easily within 10 working days from their receipt of the board.
The journey from the UK took a long time (because I was mis-informed by my
post office about the requirements for entry into Canada). But once that
was over the replacement seemed to take no time at all.

Very happy - I got a brand new 9800Pro 128MB to replace my two-and-a-half
year old item.

Hi

I'm in the UK and sent my x1600 back to where I got it from but do
they then have to send it to Canada?

It depends why you sent it back. Presumably because it was defective in
some way and not very old. Under those circumstances the Sale of Goods Act
should entitle you to a replacement or refund directly from the retailer.
Often retailers though try to hide behind an act along the lines of, "The
material is only warranted by the manufacturer, you have to deal with them."
That is not correct. You bought from the retailer who is obliged by the Act
to provide goods of merchantable quality. It was the retailer who bought
the thing from the manufacturer and it should be up to them to get *their*
money back under the terms of the warranty. Neither should you have to wait
for them to do that before you get your replacement or refund. [Depending
on the retailer making this point will often result in a sore head and a
blood-stain on your otherwise new brick wall].

Whether the retailer will have sent it to Canada would also depend on who
made it. Only the "Built by ATI" boards will go back there. I guess the
majority would go back to Taiwan to Sapphire etc.
