Ati radeon graphix problems

I have just done an upgrade to vista and the moment i open up any full screen
program that isnt in a window i get a ...Video initialization failure
Function failure:
CreateDevice
DirectX error
code:0x8876086C
('Invalid call')

error messege and after that i get a

A fatal error has occured and the app must shut down.
Could not restor renderer, now exiting

Please help!

Have you downloaded the newest drivers from ATI? Try that first. If you are
still having issues, let us know what else you've tried.

yes i have and it still wont work also ive tried reinstalling vista and
change the display settings.

Try setting the desktop resolution to what the game will be using. I found
that with WOW i couldnt get it to work at the desktop default 1200x800 but
when i changed the desktop to 1024x768 which is what i had the game set at,
every think worked out.

ive tried that 2 however when when i do a clean install it works fine but
then i dont get sound
