ATI folder opens at startup

Every time I restart computer, the /ATI folder (containing SUPPORT folder)
opens on its own! This is right after reinstalling windows (WinMe) and
installing cat3.8 and MMC8.7. It only started after MMC was installed (not
after cat3.8). Any ideas? I only get auto responses from ATI. Searched
this newsgroup; saw a few others had this problem. Repairing the
installations didn't work.

Pretty hard to answer without at least knowing what OS you're running. Have
you checked all the MMC options? Have you checked your Start Up folder?
Have you checked the registry for start up programs?

These are just quick ideas off the top of my head.

You can simply delete the folder. Everything you need to run is already
installed elsewhere.

WinMe, yes :) Nothing in startup folder. There are other problems that are
probably related: ATI scheduler and launchpad never seem to run at startup.
I have the opposite of the usual problem-- scheduler and launchpad show up
in task manager, but they aren't working! I get the "ATI scheduler is not
running" popup every time, and launchpad doesn't come up. This is all quite
absurd...

Those are the files temporanely used for the drivers intallation, just erase
the root of the folder that pops up and you'll be done!

Actually I had done that before & it works but didn't fix some underlying
problem, which was the reason the folder was opening to begin with, and
presumably why I have other problems like scheduler and remote wonder
refusing to run at startup. I actually got a new email reply from ATI and
I'm going to try that!

Wow so this is still going on? I have a similar problem. I have a
c:\Program Files\ATI folder (where I store ATI demos, scrnsavers, etc)
opening at boot every time I install new ATI cat drivers. I found the
registry
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run has
the ATIPTA key set to C:\Program Files\ATI Technologies\ATI Control
Panel\atiptaxx.exe ... and when I enclosed that in " " quotes
everything was fixed.

Ok I have that registry key too but it's already in quotes, as are all of
the ones in that folder. I'm not sure what you mean.

I thought it might be a hint to your problem since they are similar.
Apparently the reason why my c:\Program Files\ATI folder was opening
at boot was because the Run key for c:\Program Files\ATI
Technologies\ATI Control Panel\atiptaxx.exe was getting parsed as just
c:\Program Files\ATI (thus making that ATI folder open), and so
enclosing in " " made it parse the whole command ... What is weird is
that for me all 3.x ATI Cats have not had the quotes for that Run
command yet yours does. ...

Adding the quote thing did the trick for me. Now i see that the
install was probably halted the whole time because now all ati things
work (taskbar icon at startup etc....) + i got a wizard for using my
tv extension. I had this problem since the installation of those new
Catalyst combo pack (driver +cntrl pnl) on my Compaq Evo laptop with
XP Pro.

Thx!!!
