ATI Catalyst opens folder on startup

Mike

I recently installed ATI Catalyst CC version 2007.0613etc etc and now
whenever my machine reboots I find an open folder on the desktop. The
folder opens to directory C:\Program Files\ATI which contains the
"SUPPORT" folder and nothing else.

Does anyone know a way of getting rid of this folder ? It is not in
my startup menu either for my own login nor for "all users".

Many thanks,

Mike

By default, when you install the drivers, the installer extracts the
installation files to a temp directory called "C:\ATi\Support\<catalyst
ver.+ long string of numbers>"

When Setup launches from the temp directory, it by default installs the
actual driver and CCC files to a folder called "C:\Program Files\ATi
Technologies\"

Did you by any chance install the driver and CCC back into the temp folder?

Does CCC work correctly right now? If it does, then rather than correcting
the problem, you can disable "CLIStart" from MSConfig's Startup menu.

You should also check the "Run"-Key in your registry. There are two
different ones - one under

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

and the other

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

Maybe you will find the entry there

Yep, that's a windows "feature". :)

For example say you have a run key in either the current user or local
machine sections like so:

drive1:\folder1\folder2\folder3\program.exe

If program.exe is no longer exists windows explorer will open up
folder3 when the desktop loads. If folder3 is also gone then it will
open up folder2 and so forth all the way back to the root of drive1.

Usually caused by a flakey uninstaller program or by the user
"deleting" a program instead of "uninstalling" it.

Thanks to all who answered, the suggestion above did it for me.

Thanks again,

Mike
