ATI 9600 Atlantis

I bought what I think is an ATI 9600XT 128MB from Newegg.com. On the
graphics card it says 9600 128MB. The WinXP Pro Hardware Manager calls the
card a SAPPHIRE RADEON 9600 ATLANTIS. On a 2.8ghz IC7 2.8ghz 800FSB
machine, I amd getting 3dMark03 of 2530. That seems a little low. Is this
an XT or regular 9600??? THANKS

What drivers do you have installed for the card?

That's a very low benchmark score for your system - if you replaced another
card (such as an nVidia based card) did you make sure you scoured the
machine of all things nVidia (using detonator destroyer or some other driver
removal utility) - residual/improperly removed driver files can really screw
things up... (I get close to that score on a 933mhz p-3 system running 98se
using an ATI radeon 9600 (non-pro)...)

Might wanna check Sapphire's site (if they have one), or even Newegg's site
and find out what the part number is supposed to be. And, compare that to
the part number on the PCB of the card you got.

Go to display propreties/settings/advanced/ adapter tab.
There should be Adapter type: Radeon 9600 series
Adapter information: Chip type- Radeon 9600 XT
DAC Type :
Internal DAC (400) MHz
Memory size: 128
MB
Adapter string :
Radeon 9600 series
BIOS information
: ..........

Install Rage3D Tweak and see what's the default clock. I bought mine 9600XT
by Sapphire and the default clock is core/mem 500/325(650) MHz. For 9600 Pro
clock should be 400/300(600).

With AMD Barton @ 2.36 GHz (215 MHz FSB) at default speed 500/650 i get
3DMark01- 14000
3DMark03 - 3900

and with Overclocked R9600XT @ 570/690
3DMark01 -14400
3DMark03 - 4300

Driver is Catalyst 3.7

Hope this helps !
P.S. Sorry for my bad English!

What do you get with Aquamark? I'm curious about the difference between
the 9600 Pros and XTs, from the above results it looks like straight MHz.

My 3600 in 3dmark03 is with a [email protected] (185 MHz FSB) and a
9600Pro@460/650. My GPU clock is 92% of your 500 MHz, 3600 is 92% of
your score of 3900. All other things being pretty equal...
That's probably relevant :), interesting at least.
With the DNA version of the 3.9 drivers.

I just installed Rage3D Tweak and I got a Core clock of 324mhz and a Memory
Clock of 182 mhz. THIS IS DEFINITELY NOT an 9600XT (seems like a stock
9600, itdoesn't even have a heatsink fan on the VPU). I'll be calling
mwave.com (not newegg) on Monday, thanks for the help!!

Hmmm.... I thought 9600np had 400core/300mem. Seems you got shafted, in
more ways than one!

OMG! Try a program such as Nasty File Remover to delete the old nVidia
files (of course, I imagine you have already uninstalled them).
If you can provide a link to the page with the card details on newegg,
it would be helpful. Also, how much did you buy it for?

I have a 9600 Pro with "semi pro" speeds and on a p-4 1.6 ghz system,
I get a score of 2845. Make sure you aren't running the test with AA
and AF on.

Well, I've just finished Aquamark3 and here are the scores:

R9600XT OCed 570/690

GFX-4515
CPU-8309

R9600XT default 500/650

No, I didn't replace an NVIDIA card, this was installed in a new WinXP Pro
system. What I found was the core speed was 324mhz and a Memory
Clock of 182 mhz, esta mucho caca. THIS IS DEFINITELY NOT a 9600XT (seems
like a stock

Just trying to see the difference, make myself not feel so bad for not
having waited and extra month for the XTs to come out.

Are you comfortable overclocking it? No artifacts at 570/650?

M

>>> MachaK

As far as artifacts goes , highest overclock without artifacts i can manage
is 576/695.
Memory speed at 695 is stable, when i try 700 i get artifacts. The strange
thing in Rage3D Tweak is that slider for core speed is at max, so im
wondering how to go even higher?

Yes, the speeds of the 9600 are 325/400. Which is what you've got.
Your memory clock of 182 makes it even lower, so effectively, what
you've got is a crap card at 325/364.

You should definitely return the card and give them hell. How much did
you pay for it? If the page did definitely say 9600XT and you have
free time, I would suggest suing them ;-)

Actually, now that I think of it, it could be an SE even. Check out
the site and your box.

I use RadClocker <http://www28.brinkster.com/chrisww1942/download.htm>
and as far as the slider goes, you can go up to like 1700 MHz. When you
increase the increment change you increase the upper limit, the same may
hold true for Rage3D Tweak.

Herr Pie

Well I called MWAVE.com about the issue. These guys ( and newegg.com) are
my favorite suppliers because they actually listen to their customers and do
the right thing. They are Fedex'ing the right card and paying for the
return. So, case closed.... Phoenix I think you are right, this card is
probably an SE...Very SLLLLOoooooooooo...
