I like to play Age of Empires, The Conquerors, Expansion, Gold Edition. I
only play on my computer, not on line and for some reason at midnight the
background colors of my game change. Buildings and people stay the same color
but water turns purple and turquoise, and trees turn chartreuse and burnt
orange and you can see the underlying qrid lines of the layout. The only way
I've found to change the colors back is to save the game, then exit to the
main menu and select the saved game which then comes back in correct colors.
Sometimes it stays that way and sometimes not. Sometimes it will change
colors regardless of the time, but always at midnight.
I've checked the trouble shooting for the game but nothing comes close to
what I'm experiencing.

Hmm crazy thought.. most games like the ones you mentioned do change
colours like this.. to symbolize seasons changing or time changing
(day and night) perhaps this game works to your system time.. other
than that try the degauss option on your monitor.

What is the 'degauss option'?

use the buttons on the monitor itself to bring up a menu and look
under extra or advanced for it.. this is only on crt monitors not
lcd's.
