ASUS TV FM Card Problem (No TV???)

Hi all,

I've recently bought a ASUS TV FM Card.

I've installed driver and theater (ASUS Home Theater) software
succesfully, but when i try to watch tv on my computer using the card
and the theater software I only get a black screen without sound.

When I do an automatic search on tv-channels it finds bout 160 channels
but all are black without sound.

When I just play a movie with the theater it works, it's only when
trying to watch tv.

Can someone please tell me how I can fix this.

Thanks in advance.

Check the software's settings for a hardware overlay
setting. Also check for that (or some mention of "TV") in
your video card driver, in Display Properties.

Also try the newest version of the software and driver,
presumably something available on Asus' website. Likewise
with your video card, newer driver. If you haven't
installed DirectX 9c on your system, do so.

Make sure that you have selected US Antenna rather than US cable. You do
have a real antenna attached to the connector on the card, I assume.

The scan found about 160 channels, definitely not "antenna"
if that is accurate and so, while it wouldn't hurt to try
"US Antenna", is it probably set correctly to Cable.

I've only got one monitor attached to my computer so it isn't overlay
and/or displays settings.

Also i've got latest drivers, software and DirectX.

Yep,

I have cable, but just to be sure I've tried Antenna to.

With same result, it finds channels, but doesn't show them. :(

One has nothing to do with the other. Overlays as well as
display settings apply to one-monitor systems.

Most of the options in those fields are greyed-out (disabled) cause I
only have one monitor connected.

So what can it be??????

I've also asked ASUS support what it could be two weeks ago, but untill
now still no reply.

I haven't got any clue what it could be. :'(

The normal way to approach issues like these is to start out
providing a concise list of the system hardware, OS, and any
other pertinent configuration information.

So far all we know is that you have an Asus card and can't
get it to work. Provide all specifics of your system else
there is no way to know how it differs from those the card
works on.

I bought the same card and had the same problem. But instead of using
the TV tuner feature, I connected the capture card to my vcr via the
audio/video cables and using my VCR as the tuner.

Here are some tips to make it work right:

1) Only use the S-video connector, the composite connector doesn't
work right. Then make sure your source is set to s-video in the
setup menu.

2) Use the line-in on your sound card rather than the audio connectors
on the capture card. The multi-plug connector thing doesn't work
right.

Basically you are saying the same thing he did - the tuner doesnt work
cause the S video just feeds in whatever is connected to it.

You need the coax input for the tuner to work. That would be a
defective card ! If thats true the tuner doesnt work you should send
it back.

You arent trying to use a NTSC tuner in a PAL region are you? Im not
sure if that card works with both.

Can you reveal what OS you're using? I hope its not Windows 98. And also, if
you can post your system specs, it'll be most useful for troubleshooting.

Win98 works fine for TV/Tuner cards providing the
manufacturer supplied a driver for it... and in many cases,
even with the manufacturer didn't, if/when it's a standard
chip then it's relatively easy to get the video out of it
without the proper driver, but audio a little harder.
