The fan is quiet if it is running at its minimum speed, i.e. if the
processor temperature is around 40 C or less. If the processor
temperature is showing over 60 C it is going to be running at full speed
and make a lot more noise. A lot of the "quiet" coolers normally run at
1900 RPM or less idling, but can go over 3000 RPM at full speed. It
sounds as if the fan is running at full speed trying to cool your
processor down and that is why it is making so much noise.

Hello Michael
To the ear there seems no difference bet 1900rpm and 2200rpm.
Whether one could notice the difference I do not know.
But at either speed the temp can vary irrespective of the CPU being idle or
worked. I have been monitoring the temp of the case outlet for a couple of
hours, and hardly varies bet 34 - 35.5c
All I need to do now is find a way of getting the temp inside without
electrocuting myself.
I think the fan is running at its max judging by the noise - nothing I do
seems to alter the fan's noise. Something was not set-up properly. Perhaps
Probe cannot read the fan - perhaps the Mobo is not sending any messages to
the CPU to slow down. The Q is a bit like 'how long is a piece of string'
About an hour ago I opened Probe and got warning that the Mobo fan was not
working - no rpm - yet the temp showed a warm 41c which it always shows -
which is another little worry! After 15secs or so I got the fan reading.
Thank you for that info
