ASUS A8R 32-MVP/ Realtek ALC 882 Audio WDM & Codec Problems

Hi, I Just Installed Win Vista Beta 2 64 Bit the other day & am still
having problems getting the sound to work. My drivers said doesnt support
WNT_5.1p or WNT_6.0P, so i Hacked/edited & added them both to the audio
files using notepad, now in device manager says its installed properly, but
in the toolbar i have the red x on the speaker & select Volume Control, It
says no audio device is installed, But hovering on the red x it says Volume:
0 & says Realtek HD Audio Output & Realtek High Definition Audio. My Systems
Mainboard is an Asus A8R32-MVP Motherboard with Integrated Realtek ALC 882,
7.1 HD audio chipset, But no Win Vista beta 2 64 Bit drivers are available
from ASUS' website. Please advise any other possible workarounds, Thanks in
advance =)

I hope this may help you, it worked on somewhat similiar.
download beta driver from Realtek and install it
1. Start
2. control panel
3. audio devices and sound themes
4. double clixk on Realtek
5. select Properties
6. unselect Realtek Digital output
7. apply
8. listen to the music

hope it works for you

did all the following steps, except i had to switch to classic view in cp to
find audio devices & sound themes, did the rest of steps, but there is no
digital output listed, just Realtek HD Audio output, stereo mix, line in, cd
audio, & microphone, so now what? Thanks in advance

I am having exactly the same problem here. However, I think Realtek has a new
driver in the works. They had a new 32 bit Vista driver up for about 5
minutes about 2 hours ago. Hopefully it will come back with 64 bit included.

I Guess Realtek removed the vista beta driver, i can't d-load it off any 3
of the listed links, what now? Thanks in advance =)

I have the 32 bit driver dated 6/12 downloaded, but I am still debating
whether or not I want to switch to 32 bit Vista since activation can only be
done on one of them. I am still waiting hoping that the new driver will be
re-uploaded with 64 bit support.

I think the 32 bit drivers are back up.

Ok I have the smae board and experienced the same problems and finally got it
to work. I know your asus motherboard CD won't run or the most of the
programs won't run because of Vista. I'm running the Vista 64 bit version,
so this should work for you. Here's what I did. I opened (explored) the
Asus CD and copied the drivers folder to my Vista 64 desktop. I then went to
the audio folder and then the 64bit folder. In there you will see
'setup.inf' file. Open it and you will see:

[OS_Language_Tag]
;Force =Winnt52P_TChinese
;WIN_4.00 = Win95
;WIN_4.03 = Win95
;WIN_4.10 = Win98
;WIN_4.11 = Win98

and so on....at the end of the list add this line:

WNT_6.0P = winNT52P

save the file and run the AsusSetup.exe from the 64bit folder. It should
install and turn the volume icon to green and ask you to reboot. Accept,
reboot and enjoy. The Realtek HD Audio Manager works about 90%. Some things
won't show up, but they are available in the Vista sound control options and
you can enjoy 7.1 if you have it!!! For some reason I hae two Realtek
options showing, one produces sound, the other doesn't. I made the one that
produces sound my default and left it as is. It works and that's all that
matters to me, hope this helps!!

Just gave this a try and it still doesn't work :/ The only thing I could
think of was that by forcing the setup to run, it installed the HD Audio Bus
hotfix for WinXP x64. I tried installing that but couldn't get it to install
so no luck for me.

Did the install not work or did it install but still no sound?? I have sound
now, albeit just front and centre channels for games and music and so on...I
had to remove some spoof realtek device so I would get sound in WMP 11 for
videos...I can get all 8 channels to respond in the test just not in anything
else like Battlefield 2 and so on...I'm almost tempted to pull my Audigy 2 ZS
platinum card and I/O panel out of my old P4 and put it in here so I can get
surround sound...but I'm looking through the files and seeing if there is
something I can edit and rework...

Since I only have a 2.1 setup I don't know if surround is working, but I
finally got it working by using the old inf's to install the Vista dll's.

I started a thread on here titled "Realtek ALC88x Solution Found!!"

glad we're all starting to get sound working in some way or form, lol. This
is my first time using integrated audio...I have it on other boards but have
always used some type of Sound Blaster...Just decided to go the cheaper route
but...it works, just 2.1 for me...Maybe it's a limitation somewhere becasue I
read others are only getting 2.1 in 5.1 setups and so on. If I ever need to
I can always reboot and boot into Win XP Pro x64 and crank up the tunes in
surround sound, but the way Vista plays BF2....it's SO much faster, and I
can't even use Crossfire with ATI's Vista drivers so I'm waiting for more
good things to come in Vista 64 (RC1)!! Enjoy the sonud with the sight!

I tried editing the line & installing the drivers to which i get an immediate
blue screen & shortly thereafter a reboot & will keep doing it, have to use
last good known config to make it stop, installing the beta realtek driver
nets me the same result, hope i can figure out a solution soon

Hey just a thought....Has everyone update their BIOS to the latest version?
I know one of the versions fixed some bugs with the sound. I have the latest
BIOS installed so maybe that's why mine works, and I'm using the drivers from
the ALife CD revision 201.02 I had also had the Realtek drivers installed
that WIndows Vista said works but no sound comes from and then did my stuff
as I wrote above a few replies back and let the program install over that.
My motherboard is also the Deluxe edition of the board. Maybe within these
differences lies the problems and solutions.

Ok, Here's the Wierd thing, I discovered this by accident , i clicked on the
ease of access icon on the lower left of the Vista logon screen then the
window opens & hovering on the text enables my sound! Then i close out of
that & my sound will work the rest of my windows session, Ain't that crazy?
LOL

Asus CD and copied the drivers folder to my Vista 64 desktop. I then went to
the audio folder and then the 64bit folder. In there you will see
'setup.inf' file. Open it and you will see:

[OS_Language_Tag]
;Force =Winnt52P_TChinese
;WIN_4.00 = Win95
;WIN_4.03 = Win95
;WIN_4.10 = Win98
;WIN_4.11 = Win98

and so on....at the end of the list add this line:

WNT_6.0P = winNT52P

save the file and run the AsusSetup.exe from the 64bit folder. It should
install and turn the volume icon to green and ask you to reboot. Accept,
reboot and enjoy.

:

Please advise any other possible workarounds, Thanks in
advance =)

LOL

Hey just a thought....Has everyone update their BIOS to the latest version?
I know one of the versions fixed some bugs with the sound. I have the latest
BIOS installed so maybe that's why mine works, and I'm using the drivers from
the ALife CD revision 201.02 I had also had the Realtek drivers installed
that WIndows Vista said works but no sound comes from and then did my stuff
as I wrote above a few replies back and let the program install over that.
My motherboard is also the Deluxe edition of the board. Maybe within these
differences lies the problems and solutions.

I tried editing the line & installing the drivers to which i get an immediate
blue screen & shortly thereafter a reboot & will keep doing it, have to use
last good known config to make it stop, installing the beta realtek driver
nets me the same result, hope i can figure out a solution soon

:

glad we're all starting to get sound working in some way or form, lol. This
is my first time using integrated audio...I have it on other boards but have
always used some type of Sound Blaster...Just decided to go the cheaper route
but...it works, just 2.1 for me...Maybe it's a limitation somewhere becasue I
read others are only getting 2.1 in 5.1 setups and so on.

:

Since I only have a 2.1 setup I don't know if surround is working, but I
finally got it working by using the old inf's to install the Vista dll's.

I started a thread on here titled "Realtek ALC88x Solution Found!!"

:

Did the install not work or did it install but still no sound?? I have sound
now, albeit just front and centre channels for games and music and so on...I
had to remove some spoof realtek device so I would get sound in WMP 11 for
videos...I can get all 8 channels to respond in the test just not in anything
else like Battlefield 2 and so on...I'm almost tempted to pull my Audigy 2 ZS
platinum card and I/O panel out of my old P4 and put it in here so I can get
surround sound...but I'm looking through the files and seeing if there is
something I can edit and rework...

:

Just gave this a try and it still doesn't work :/ The only thing I could
think of was that by forcing the setup to run, it installed the HD Audio Bus
hotfix for WinXP x64. I tried installing that but couldn't get it to install
so no luck for me.

I got my driver to work with your instructions but I have no actual sound but
I have all the icons and options that shows I do have sound.
I was able to start up Theif 3 becuase previously it gave me an error that I
had no sound.
Oblivion will not start and it hangs my machine to the point of having to
shut down. I am thinking if I can get actual sound out of my speakers it
might make Oblivion happy.

Any clues?

Thanks
