Astra 1220P Scanner

This is a parallel port scanner. Can I hook this up to work without having a printer in line with it?
I tried but it doesn't detect the scanner.
Is there such a thing as having to change the BIOS settings?
This is being attempted on an older computer, Win 98SE.

it should work fine without the printer, the only reason you have to go through a printer is if you want both
 
Go to the control panel and find Scanners or Scanners & Cameras.

Click on that and you should see your scanner. And you should be able to scan from there.

It shouldn't need drivers but it would be preferable to load them.
