Assistance required to remove Trojan!

Jake Wade

Am running Windows XP SP2 with Norton Anti Virus 2003(Virus definitions are
up to date) and my ISP scans all
incoming mail.
Despite this I have found a TROJAN in my "Temporary Internet Files" and
Norton is unable to remove it!
Norton tells me that it is in a file "Content.IE5" but such a file does not
exist on my hard drive?
Can anyone tell me how to deal with it?? or direct me to a more suitable
group??
Symantec no longer provide support for AV2003

Content.IE5 is a "hidden" file/folder.

You will need to tell you XP to "Show all files" in Windows Explorer "Folder
options"

I have chosen "Show all files" Norton still indicates an infected file
contained in"Content.IE5"
but the file cannot be found?, nor can "Content.IE5"?

And if you delete your Temporary Internet Files...?
*********************************************
The virus is shown as being in the folder "Content.IE5" which cannot be
found.
The contents of "Temporary Internet Files" has been deleted a number of
times with the exception of
two files which will not delete! ( "dot_clear.gif" and "free.email.jpg" )
and are assosiated with Symantec.
The "Temporary Internet Files" folder will not delete nor accept being
renamed as it is a system folder.

Then log on as Administrator and delete it. See

Thanks to Yves Leclerc, Eddy, Pat & PA Bear for suggestions.

I have finally got rid of the file by using :-
"Accessories/System Tools/Disk Cleanup" and then manually deleting the file
indicated as
being infected. I still don't know why it would not show in "Windows
Explorer" ??!!
I now have IE configured to delete those temporary files on close down.

Once again thanks

Long story, involving hidden files/folders and the "smoke & mirrors" nature
of Temporary Internet Files.
