Hi,
I have a cable modem with DHCP(though my internet ip rarely
changes). The
cable modem is connected to a Linksys BEFSR41 ver 3 router. 3 windows xp
pro boxes are connected to the router.
The router assigns each box a dynamic 192.168.1.xxx local ip. It
changes on
each box depending on the order i boot them(well thats what it seems to
me).
How can I assign static local ips to these boxes? For example
box 1 - 192.168.1.100
box 2 - 193.168.1.101
box 3 - 193.168.1.102
I have specfic ports forwared and opened in the router and so need
these address to
never change.

Thanks,
Chuck

Change the DHCP range to exclude the range of addresses you want to, well,
exclude, and assign static IPs to the workstations. Or assign addresses that
are outside the existing range.

Assuming the change from 192 to 193 in the first octet or your addresses was
a typo, simply right-click your LAN connection and select Properties.
Select Internet Protocol from the list of connection items and click the
Properties button. Select "Use the following IP Address" and type in the
manual assignment. Specify a subnet mask (e.g 255.255.255.0), and enter the
IP address of your router as the gateway address.

You may also have to enter the addresses of your ISP, which you can see on
the Status page of your router. You shouldn't have to disable the DHCP
server in your router, but once everything is working, you may as well.

I hope this works for you.

In the second paragraph, that should be "DNS Addresses of your ISP"...
