assigning a hot key to screensaver activation

I have a Microsoft Internet keyboard. I am trying to assign the option of
having the screensaver activate immediately to one of the keys (it worked on
my old hard drive - starting fresh I can't seem to get the right commmand
line). First of all I can't find any scrnsave.exe in my system32 folder. I
must be looking for the wrong file. ??
Simply put I'd like to know the command line for activating the default
screensaver so that I can assign it to the appropriate key. The command line
I'm trying to use is C:\WINDOWS\system32\scrnsave.scr within WindowsXP Pro
which I think should activate the "default" screensaver. All that happens
is the screen goes black. No screensaver kicks in at all.
It worked on my old hard drive darn it! But it was an older version of the
software for Microsoft keyboard. But I think it should work.
I'd appreciate some advice.

Hi,

You have to use the name of the actual screensaver file, not something
generic. For instance, to use the pictures screensaver, you would use
C:\Windows\system32\ssmypics.scr.

Create a shortcut to the screensaver.

Right click on Desktop and select:
New > Shortcut, then browse to the
C:\Windows\System32 folder. Select the screensaver,
click next and finish.

Thank you all and yes I know I can do it that way. However I didn't have to
selective as far as what screensaver ran on my old hard drive. And I'm gonna
have to plug that thing in again and see what the actual command was since I
haven't wiped it out yet. It may be the keyboard software that is different
now. I don't know but anyway it's a handy feature. I'll let you know if I
figure it out :)

Thanks again!

ok.. once again thank you. I looked on the old hard drive. The command was
offered as part of the older software for the Microsoft Internet Keyboard -
Intellitype Pro v 2.2..... It is not offered in the newest version 5.2. I
don't know when it was dropped actually. Seems I may have missed a few
versions. It worked fine - shrugging her shoulders. "If it ain't broke
don't fix it?"
oh well...

you are correct, "activate screensaver" was removed from Intellitype after
version 2.2. I do not know why either, I liked it too!

But, creating a shortcut to the .scr file and then assigning the key to
that shortcut works fine in later versions.

okkkkkk. If I go that route with the new software Intellitype 5.2
interestingly the screensaver does not kick back in with the "welcome
screeen" as it does when the screensaver is allowed to cut in on its own.
What is the difference?

Screensavers run on another desktop. Starting one manually just starts it on your current desktop and it is just a program that draws pretty things.

Thank you David for that very useful piece of information. I'm just not
sure I understand what you are trying to say or how it applies to my query.
