Aspire Optic drive failure

My dvd/cd rwd just all of a sudden quite working. I have not installed any
new programs and have only used it once to rip a cd a while ago. When
attempting to fix the driver problem it states it is corrupt. I read the
other thread about a similar issue but I have not upgrade my vista platform.
My Aspire model is 5630-6288. When I ask for the computer to find a solution
to the problem the screen just goes away without a solution. I tried
downloading a "patch" from Acer without luck.
