If you're having problems with Nero/ASPI/INcD, this url for Nero will solve
your CD burning problems. It did mine.

Click on the Tools link and follow the instructions for each step:

Support Tools
Info Tools
Clean Tools
CD/DVD-ROM Test
ASPI Driver
System Updates / Libraries (if applicable)

It has easy, thorough instructions, and I was able to burn a CD after I
rebooted for the last time.

What problem were you trying to fix? I have found that any version ABOVE
4.3.14.1 (including InCD5 incl w/Nero 7) causes errors when trying to "send
to" folders & contents from "My Documents" to CDRW media... says "Disk is
read only". Strange though the folder (empty) will appear on the CDRW. I
can also still send the contents of the folder separately, but not the
folder including its contents as one entity.
Also it only happens with Windows created folders, not with my own created
folders.
Nero Support have failed to reproduce the error and can't help, but
according to the CDFreaks Forum there are plenty of others with the same
problem.

Hi Peter,

I have Nero 6.6. When I burn a CD-R/DC-RW, I usually put the files that I
want to burn in a folder, open either Nero Express or Nero StartSmart and
click on the appropriate icon, whether it's create music disk, mp3 disk, data
disk, svcd, etc. In the next pop-up window, I search for the files that I
want. Since they're all in one folder, I either double click the folder and
highlight the files I want and click "Add," or I drag and drop the folder
into the window, which will add all the files that are in the folder into the
window. Then I click "Next," I name the disk, click "Next" again, and Nero
starts burning the files. Nero had always worked that way for me until about
2 months ago when INcD had somehow got locked into Nero. Following the steps
at the Nero site unlocked Nero so that it now works again. I tried ForceASPI
but it didn't work. I also went to CD Freaks, Major Geeks, and Geeks To Go,
but the forums gave me no help. When I wrote to Nero, I received no reply.
The only thing that fixed the problem for me was downloading the files and
following the directions at the Tools link at the Nero site.

So you are saying ignore InCD & use Startsmart and just use the regular
burning method?
InCD 4.3.14.1 works OK for me but not 4.3.20.1 or above. So if I just stick
with that I haven't a problem. Trouble is I like to keep up to date, which
is my downfall sometimes.
Not sure about the ASPI thing as there's not much to read about it until you
actually install it and I don't want to mess up further. I'm not too sure
exactly what its function is.
Thanks for the help.

I didn't say to ignore INcD. INcD was locked into Nero on my PC so that
nothing else could be done with Nero. By following the steps at the Nero
Tools site, it freed Nero so that it would work again. I'm not a
software/hardware expert. I found a way to get Nero to burn CDs for me again
and since I knew that a lot of people were having the same problem and no
answers were forthcoming from any of the forums or from Nero via email, I
posted the Tools link because when I followed the steps given there, Nero now
burns CDs for me again, whether starting from Nero SmartStart or Nero
Express. I never had a problem with Nero not opening folders. It always
opened the folders but, when I clicked to burn, it then gave me an error
message that said that Nero wasn't available. Another error message told me
that INcD was locked into Nero, which was the reason Nero wasn't available.
INcD was already using it. By following the steps at Nero Tools, it
basically uninstalled Nero and all of its components and then reinstalled the
program again. But it does give the warning that all of the components won't
be included. I no longer have Nero Showtime, so I'll have to download it
again. I no longer have Nero QuickFix, so I'll have to download that one
again also. Each step at Tools told me exactly what to do, when to do it,
and what to expect. It also explicitly says that you will have to enter your
registered serial number in order to download and install Nero 6 again. If
you didn't purchase/register the program and receive your serial number, you
will need to do so before you can download and uninstall Nero again.

Thanks Denise.
I didn't quite understand your first post, for which I apologise.
In the meanwhile I used Express to burn my backups for a change and realised
it's not only quicker than InCD but you can get about 200mb more info on to
the disk than with using InCD. (InCDFS only 539mb, without = 702mb). I might
just ignore InCD from now on as a result.
Thanks again.

I never used INcD to burn CDs for that very reason but it was part of the
Nero program that was on the disk when I installed it. Unfortunately, for me
and for others, it eventually locked Nero from burning because Nero was
already being used by INcD and to remove INcD from Nero, all the Nero
software and INcD had to be uninstalled and then reinstalled.

This is the Nero 6 update page to download and install all the programs
associated with Nero that weren't included with the Nero software on the
Tools page:

Read this thread with some interest, the only problem with Nero I
found about 5 years ago (and ever since to varying degrees) was InCD.
I suggest cleaning out Nero completely and re-installing just Burning
ROM and Vision Express if you want to burn DVD Videos. Don't install
Showtime unless you really need it and do not install InCD it is
unreliable.

Nero bangs on about you "must" install all four components for Nero to
work correctly - bollocks they should advise the opposite.

I have seen a lot of Nero issues over the years cured by removing the
InCD element, its by no means a problem for all users but it causes
problems for a significant proportion.

I have used Nero since it was version zilch and cost next to nothing -
its a great utility but the bloatware has grown in size and redundancy
over the years - if you don't need it don't install it.

You can do anything you want with Burning Rom it is complex but very
comprehensive. Express takes care of the quick and easy stuff and
Vision Express could not be easier to burn a .avi file to DVD (just
dog slow).
