ASPI driver

Bob Harris

Originally ASPI drivers were associated with SCSI disks
and peripherals. But, sometime ago they started being
used for CD/DVD connected via IDE (or ATAPI). These days
it is operfectly normal to have an "ASPI layer" on all PC,
even those without SCSI deices or disks.

The following link explains ASPI and how to download the
latest layer for your PC:

Bob:

I would not call it normal.
From: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;300674
"By default, Windows XP does not include ASPI support"

And, as with any drivers, know that a mismatch between driver versions and
devices can cause problems
