ASP.net

Michael Mauzey

I upgraded my Maxtor external hardrive software and my
Dantz Retrospect software and somehow a new user has been created called
"ASP.net". Now when I reboot my computer instead of going directly to
Windows, it shows my Administrator account which I have to click on in order
to proceed to Windows.

What is an ASP.net account? And more importantly,
can I delete the damned account without screwing up my computer?

Thanks ... Michael Mauzey

ASP.net is the dotnetframework hotfix from windows update, you can bypass the
login prompt in your user accounts.

Deja vu. Anyway, yes. You can safely delete the phantom account. Before you
do that, though, go to the Windows Update site and download .NET Framework
1.1 SP1. This should correct what ASP.net did and restore the way you logged
on to the way it was before .NET was installed. At least, that's what
happened when I installed .NET 1.1 SP1.

Thanks Heero Yuy ... oddly enough, when I downloaded and installed the Net
framework you mentioned, the phantom ASP.net account disappeared all by
itself.
Thanks again ... pormike

ASP.NET Machine Account is created when the Microsoft .Net Framework 1.1
is installed onto a Windows XP machine.
It depends. If one works with asp.net development work then he/she must
keep that account, otherwise ASP.net projects will no longer function
correctly.
But if one has nothing to do with asp.net then it can be easily removed.

In September 2004 Microsoft released Service Pack 1 for version 1.1 of
the .Net Framework, the automatic logon issue was corrected along with
further security enhancements, and full support for Windows XP Service
Pack 2.

Alternative method to correct this automatic logon issue:-

Start > Run and type in "control userpasswords2" >Ok.
Uncheck "Users must enter a user name and password to use this computer"
option, and click Ok.
