Are emails from Microsoft Legitimate?

I have recently begun receiving email from Microsoft with
security updates attached. These look real and even have
the same borders as the MS website. Are these emails
legitimate?

.
Nooooo, They are not. Microsoft does not send critical
update notices to anyone. This is a virus or a worm.
Never open anything from microsoft as a critical update.
They are just using them as a tool to get people to trust
the content.

No you haven't. They are *not* from Microsoft.

No, they are not, and the attachments contain a virus. Note that
NS never sends patches by E-mail.

No, Microsoft never sends update attachments. Another thing to consider,
Microsoft does not have your email address unless you submitted it through
the optional registration. Mandatory activation does not transmit personal
information, so MS would not have a database to send update emails.
Attachments should never be opened, unless you confirmed the attachment was
legit with a confirmation from a know sender after the receiving the email
with the attachment and your virus definitions are up to date. Only then
should you open the attachment.

No. They are plausible wrappers for the Swen worm, trying to get the
gullible or thoughtless into installing it.
