Hello there,

New to Exchange Server 2003. One of my users tried to archive his email and
somehow it ended up in the folder 'Internet Newsgroups' within 'All Public
Folders'. I would like to figure out/know the following:
1. Any idea how this happened (he does not remember what he did and I have
been unable to repeat the process)?
2. How do I move the messages in the 'Internet Newsgroups' folder back to
his email?
3. What is the proper way to archive emails?
4. How do I prevent this or something similar from happening again? I
don't want this going someplace else like a different folder or even another
users acount...
5. How do I prevent a user from establishing an Internet Newsgroup?

Thanks in advance for any help,
Ramin

1) Manual move, rules, this could turn into an ugly guessing game... ;-)

2) Tried drag & drop already?

3) Use Tools-> Options-> tab Other-> button AutoArchive to set your options.
You can use File-> Archive for a manual procedure.
If your environment is in need of archiving you might want to take that out
of the users hands and implement a serverside (Exchange based) archiving
solution which is transparent to the end-user.

4) Make sure you've set the corrrect permissions. By default users only have
access to their own set of folders.

5) If you don't want to use the newsgroup feature on Exchange you can
uninstall it or restrict permissions to it.

Hi Robert - thanks for the reply. In regards to #2, are you saying that
logged in as the user, do a drag and drop from the Internet Newsgroup public
folder to his inbox?

Thank you,
Ramin

Yep, select the items to move, not the Internet Newsgroup Public folder ;-)

Okay, I am able to copy the items over but not move them. Now that they are
back in his inbox, I can't delete them from the Internet Newsgroup - logged
in as the user or as the administrator. What next? Thanks...Ramin
