applying design template

I downloaded and saved a template and used in on the beginning slides of a
presentation with no problem. After saving the presentation and going back
into it, I can no longer apply the template. The template shows up as
available and recently used, but when I am on the new slide in my
presentation, I can't get it to apply to that new slide. When I click on it,
nothing happens.

I downloaded to my powerpoint templates. It shows up an an option to choose
from when formatting slide design.

It should be saved in:

Documents & Settings/your name/application data/microsoft/ templates

Not in the more obvious place in the Office folder

If you've already applied that template to slides in the file, you won't see
a change if you reapply the template to the same slides (because it's
already there).

If you're on a new slide and it's not got the appropriate template, try
clicking the arrow that appears on the right of the template thumbnail and
choosing "apply to selected slides." Of course, this means you'll want to
make sure you've selected the slide in the slide thumbnail panel on the left
of the screen.

Also, if the new slide was inserted using Insert|New Slide (or Ctrl+M), the
new slide should take on the template of the slide immediately before it.
So, say you are on slide 3 when you insert a new slide. Slide 4 should then
inherit the template from slide 3.

And finally, if you just click a template thumbnail, it applies the template
to all slides in the presentation -- if it's a different template. If it's
the same template (as the slide selected in the slide thumbnail panel on the
left already uses), nothing happens.
