Applications won't run

I am having a very unusual problem with a home networked computer that
system restore will not fix. Applications will simply not run on this
computer anymore. I can't even open My Computer. Outlook will run, but
once it gets to the welcome screen it hangs. Double click on the Internet
Explorer icon--nothing. I've checked task manager and the processor is not
over utilized...IEXPLORER.EXE shows in the process list but no interface.

The only way to shut the system down is to unplug the power. I've booted
into the admin account in safe mode, run Norton Antivirus and found nothing.
I used system restore several times and rolled back a couple weeks and still
have the problem...

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. We run a home-based business and
need this machine...

Thank you!

Regards,

-rlm.

Are you sure you see
iexplorER.exe,
but not
iexplorE.exe?

If so -- you've got a Trojan. Some of them prevent antivirus programs
from run, or from working properly.

You can search for IEXPLORER.EXE at Symantec site,
http://www.symantec.com/search/
- more than 50 Trojans use this file name. There you can find also, how
to get rid of them.
