Applications won't open with restored XP

I had to recently go through a "restoration" process to get
my XP Home Ed. up and running. But after it was restored --
now I cannot open any application -- although the icons are
still on the desktop. Internet explorer works but Netscape
will not open (I have re-installed). Also, none the Office
suite products (ppt, word & exel) recognize the extensions.
Any help?

Hi,

Depends on many factors. Suggestions:

The values that are removed from the Run key are transferred to the
following registry key after an upgrade:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Setup\DisabledRunKeys

Each value that is under this key corresponds to a run item (program) that
had been disabled by Setup. The format for the values is the same as the
original values in the following registry key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

When you restore these values by using the Restore Startup Programs option,
they are moved from the registry value in DisabledRunKeys back to the Run
key.

To do so, go to Start/Run/Msconfig/Startup/Restore Startup Programs

To use the Regedit: Save the REG File to your hard disk. Double click it
and answer yes to the import prompt. REG files can be viewed in Notepad by
right clicking on the file and selecting Edit.
