Applications too slow to launch/retrieve files

I installed Windows SP1 yesterday. Today I noticed that
it takes a long time for any microsoft programs to open
or retrieve files (Word, Excel). Does that have anything
to do with SP1? Also, when you click the right mouse
button, it takes a long time before you see the menu (The
hourglass stays for a while). this is highly unusual
since normally these things will happen in a snap!
