Slow program launch when wireless is on

I have windows xp pro installed on my IBM thinkpad.

When the wireless LAN is connected, launching applications from either
taskbar or start menu becomes extremely slow. For instance, if I click
an icon in the quick launch menu, the icon and the whole taskbar would
freeze for a very long time (2 minutes sometimes) before the program
is launched.

The problem is gone if I turn off wireless.

Any suggestions or comments?

Thank you.

Latest chipset, wifi and wired network card drivers installed direct from
the manufacturer's support/download site?

Do you have any persistent network connections defined? The command "net
use" will tell you. It may be that Windows is trying to use a
non-connected network device.

What shows in Event Viewer?

Please post copies of all Error and Warning Reports appearing in the
System and Application logs in Event Viewer relating to the last boot in
normal mode . No Information Reports or Duplicates please. Indicate
which also appear in a previous boot.

You can access Event Viewer by selecting Start, Control Panel,
Administrative Tools, and Event Viewer. When researching the meaning
of the error, information regarding Event ID, Source and Description
are important.

A tip for posting copies of Error Reports! Run Event Viewer and double
click on the error you want to copy. In the window, which appears is a
button resembling two pages. Click the button and close Event
Viewer. Now start your message (email) and do a paste into the body of
the message. Make sure this is the first paste after exiting from
Event Viewer.

The culprit turns out to be the network drives. I deleted all the
network drives using "net use * /delete". Then the problem was solved.
Programs are launched very quickly even with wireless on.

Many thanks to everyone for your help!
