Application popup: 16 bit MS-DOS Subsystem

The following Error message pops up every 15 mins when I
am using my Windows XP desktop PC. The full message is
as :

Application popup: 16 bit MS-DOS Subsystem :
C:\WINDOWS\System32\patch.exe

The NTVDM CPU has encountered an illegal instruction.
CS:053f IP:0208 OP:63 6b 67 72 6f Choose 'Close' to
terminate the application.

Can someone help me solve this problem?
