What file does win2000 use to store the relationship between file
types and the application used to open the file?

Thanks,

Tom

This is stored in the registry under HKEY_CLASS_ROOT aka
HKLM\SoftwareClasses

What is it that you're looking to do?

....Trying to stop the quicktime plug-in from automatically playing an
MP3 file when an MP3 link is clicked. Instead, the MP3 file needs to
be downloaded.

ARg, quicktime. I'd rather run a virus than that damn program.

Here is something that I think will make it download, unless quicktime
hijacks the setting and puts it back the way IT thinks it should be instead
of letting you, the HUMAN, decide.

Windows Explorer:

Tools--Folder Options
File Types tab
Scroll to MP3 and select it
Click Advanced
Check on: Confirm open after download
OK out of everything.

Or, to change the registered program for .mp3, the quick and easy way is to
right click on an MP3, choose Open As..., select the program of your choice,
CHECK THE "ALWAYS USE THIS PROGRAM" option, and click OK.

Hey Ray...thanks for your help. Unfortunately, changing the settings
on my local machine does not affect an mp3 link on the internet.
Quicktime is tied into IE and will not provide an option to download
the mp3. Please let me know if you come up with any other ideas.
Sknath.

The OS should have the final say, but aside from what I suggested, I'm not
sure what else you can change.

But, if these are just links that you're clicking on in Web pages, you can
RIGHT click on the link and do a "Save target as..." perhaps.

Yes.
