Application Error on Startup

I been getting a startup error for the past few weeks and I tried a few
things to solve my problems. It seems this occured after one of the Windows
updates. Now the update shield pops up on my taskbar for 1 minute then
disappears.

I looked in the Event viewer and found the error message that pops up on
startup in the Application Events.

I tried searching this event on Microsoft's website and found nothing. I was
told to try another website that had tons of Event ID problems and how to fix
them. The one that was for svchost --> msi.dll said to reinstall Windows
Installer 3.1 redistributable. I downloaded the program and installed it on
top of the current one and nothing happened. I didn't want to uninstall it
because it showed a list of programs that wont work afterwards.

Hi Chris,

Make sure the following are true for the Local Services listed in Services:
Automatic Updates Startup Type is Set to Automatic.
Background Intelligent Transfer Service Startup Type is Set to Manual.
Event Log Startup Type is Set to Automatic.

Once this is done, click on Start and click My Computer. Right-click on the Hard Drive containing the operating system and click Properties. Now click on Tools. Under Error-checking click Check Now. Check both choices. Click Start and click Yes. Reboot the computer.

On the reboot, before going to Windows Update, use Explore and go to your \Temp folders. Erase / Delete all files and sub-folders not currently in use. If you change the view to Details and then sort by Date, makes deleting the files a lot easier. Then Empty the Recycle Bin.
