First thank you for looking and helping and sorry for the long post.
I tried looking at all the other messages and did not see one covering my
issue. I have XP/SP2 installed then I installed Windows 2000 for a dual boot.
When I tried to log into XP is said missing "hal.dll" after I reloaded
hal.dll from the CD it still didn't work, I then found a site that said I
needed to reinstall ntdetect (or something like that) and another file. The
computer now boots into XP but when I shut down it says it's ok to turn off
the computer. This didn't happen before. I read alot of messages saying to go
to the APM tab and enable it. I looked and don't have an APM tab (I think it
was there before I reinstalled hal.dll). Is there an update that I need to
find that places the APM tab in the power management section? I always update
my system so if it's an automatic one the log shows this as being done. Is
there a log entry or registry entry that needs to be cleared? My BIOS does
support APM. System is 3.0ghz, 1.5gb ram and 256mb ati video.

Thank you in advance.
Joe

The APM tab is unavailable on ACPI–compliant computers. ACPI automatically
enables Advanced Power Management, which disables the APM tab.

Thanks for the information Wes. Do you (or anyone) know how I can get my
system to power down after I shut it down? It worked before I reinstalled
hal.ddl, ntdetect and the other file (had to do with nt).

Thank you for your help
Joe
