AOL Popunders

I get AOL screens, with the URL
http://www.aol.co.uk/products/broadband/gold/ popping under other windows.
I have twice put this address into my restricted zone, which ought to block
it, but it still appears, and when I go to reset the zone, I find it has
been changed to AOL.com, so the popunder is not being blocked. Google does
not block it either, and I have e-mailed them for their comments.

Is there no end to the arrogance of this company, which is becoming more and
more a blight on the peaceful working of the internet.

This is a gross invasion of my machine, and should be stopped by whatever
means available. Does anyone have any ideas how I can make the setting
stick, and also how we might hit back at AOL?

I understand that you are frustrated and irritated, but if you don't use
AOL (I assume you don't), try using the Mozilla browser (or Firefox as
the standalone version). You will have far greater control over popups
and popunders. It's free, and you can get it at www.mozilla.org.

simple enough, david - upgrade your browser to "mozilla 1.6 (suite)".

I doubt anything consumers could do would actually adversely affect AOL -
they are so ingrained in the internet society ("so easy to use, no wonder
it's #1") that it would be impossible to do anything against them. Also, if
you're talking about attacks such as DDoS or anything, it wouldn't even be
beneficial to try as they probably have more than enough servers to deal
with that sort of attack.

I agree that AOL really shoves their way into everything a standard computer
user does - let me tell you, cleaning up AOL-related icons from 3 or 4
different places every time I install a Netscape (I have 4 versions,
currently, as well as Mozilla, FireFox, IE6, and Opera) or AIM is really a
pain. I've found that FireFox seems to work pretty well for popups, but
lacks some of the functionality of IE. Opera seems to be the best of both
worlds, offering cookie and popup blocking from an easily accessible Quick
Preferences menu as well as losing little of the functionality of IE. Plus,
both FireFox and Opera have the ability to use mouse gestures, which of
course I use constantly. =)

Use a better ISP? Just a guess.
