AOL IM causes corruption in system

I noticed that when I leave AOL IM open for long periods of time that
eventually some sort of system corruption occurs. For example, today,
after leaving it open for a while, the IE files on the desktop lost
their normal icon appearance. Other times, after leaving the program
open for long periods of time, and restarting again, the system freezes
at startup.

Suggestions?
Thanks.
Bruce

Hi Bruce,

Which version of AOL IM are you running? I have noticed that the Triton
version has major bugs.

How can you tell which version?

Hi Dannie,

Once the program is opened. Click Help then click About.

Hi Creator,
I am running 5.9 6089 which is the latest version. Actually, it may be
more stable than the previous version. I did uncheck the compatibility
box in options because there was no XP option listed.
Thanks.

Hi Bruce,

I have version 5.9.3861 installed. I have not tried letting it run all
the time. I use Windows Live Messenger which works great with the Logitech
QuickCam Orbit MP Camera and its original QuickCam 9.5 software.

You said sometimes about IE Files on the Desktop? What are they? I don't
have IE Files on the Desktop. I use Favorites or save any files in My
Documents.

Hi Creator,
The IE files on the desktop are single saved files which I place on the
desktop for quick referral.
Why don't you leave IM running when you are away from your computer?
Does it crash your OS?

Hi Bruce,

Not really certain. I like Windows Live Messenger much better than AIM
or AOL Instant Messenger. But I think while I was opening and closing it
today, it caused a process on my computer that is making the Type go Bold
from Normal and back to Normal and keeps repeating.

An Example: Using Outlook Express as I am composing this message and
looking at the News Server: at the top and my News Server, where I am
sending this reply to or thru to the Internet, saids newsgroups.victoria.ca.
The wording is going to Bold to Normal type to bold to Normal and it is
bothersome looking at the screen.

I don't know if AIM is responsible or not.

Here is the link: http://home.comcast.net/~thecreator/Video8.wmv to the
process I am talking about. It is 1:11 in length.
