Tom

When I launch AOL and run the setup, I try and use the
auto detect feature which is built in to AOL to find your
modem/DSL etc. This shuts my computer down and restarts
it every time used. I can manually set it up and it
works. Also on occasion AOL can not find my DSL line and
the DSL lights are on so I am hooked up. Restarting the
computer does not help. I defragment the hard drive and
it works again. Is there a setting I do not know about?
Of course AOL says they have never heard of such a
problem and it must be in the windows software. I have a
VPR Matrix computer that isn't even close to maxed out
for memory. Whats up?

I'm a little reluctant to support AOL, but if you insist..... you will need to
setup AOL to use another ISP, or take advantage of the BYOP deal, which is
cheaper, assuming you use the dsl line exclusively. It's been so long since I've
worked with AOL software, but so many folks that I know insist on signing up
with AOL (especially if it's their first time on the internet) so I've had no
choice but to help them out. Now, let me see....... did you set up AOL to use
LAN/tcp/ip option so that it uses the dsl line instead of the modem?

Simple. Dump AOL. They offer nothing that you can't get from a real
ISP. AOL commercials like to make you think you get things that you cn't
get otherwise like Spam and Pop-up blocking. But, That's bull. Most ISP
have this and/or you can download software from the net that does the
same thing and gives you more control. For example, if you have friends
that use Yahoo for their e-mail, you may not be able to get mail from
them because AOL decideds that spmmers use Yahoo. So, they block any
thing coming from the Yahoo Domain.

Get a real ISP. Save yourself the headaches.
