AOL Broadband

Am curious if anyone else has run into problems hooking up
a router to AOL Broadband (DSL). The router is a Netgear
WGT634U, modem is a BroadBlaster. When I browse to the
router and run the setup wizard it says I'm connected, yet
the AOL account can't find the DSL modem. AOL and Netgear
provide little in the way of help. The system is fairly
new, has no problem if directly connected to the modem.
Am running Norton Security Center, Windows Firewall is
turned on (I guess I should turn them both off until I get
it resolved).

Any advice would be appreciated.

The last time I set up a router for a client using AOL Broadband as
their ISP (probably at least a year ago, maybe longer), only Linksys
was supported. Check with AOL to see if this has changed. If it hasn't,
then you can't do what you want with any other hardware.

Thanks for telling me, MGGP. As I said, it has been a long time since I
set up that client's router. So, have you upgraded the Netgear
firmware? Did that fix it for you?

I upgraded the firmware (3 revs) and was finally able to
access the web via IE, however, the AOL software still
won't sign on. Working with AOL software is like herding
cats.

Thanks again.

Yes, I'm afraid I can't say anything good about AOL. I've seen their
broadband offering twice now and have been really unimpressed. IMO it's
better to just access the Internet with a regular DSL or cable provider
and if you still want to use AOL's resources, do their Bring Your Own
Access thing and pay them the $15/month.
