Anyone know how to get ATI media player to work again?

It initially worked.

Then I "upgraded" to 8.1 then 8.5 then 8.6, which fixed my other problems,
but starting with 8.5 the media player hangs on opening anything video. I
removed and reinstalled everything to no avail. Anybody have any hints?
These same mpg files play just fine on Windows Media Player.

In sympathy, I upgraded 8.1 -> 8.5 yesterday, probably the worst upgrade I
have done. 8.1 simply would not remove itself, 8.5
would not install over parts of 8.1 that would not go away, order of
installation of various components critical. I had to manually remove
entries in the registry and remove all traces of directories used by 8.1
before I finally got a functional upgrade.

Keep trying, I got it to work but main thing for me was to get rid of ALL of
8.1 before setting up 8.5.

P.S. where did you see 8.6, 8.5 is the latest that I see on ati.com?

Sounds horrible. Ok, I can try that. What a pain. Sounds like a logical
explanation of my problem, though. There must be an easier way, I just wish
they gave it to us.
