I greatly prefer the layout and simplicity of Outlook Express, but new
Outlook loaded automatically on this new PC. Any way I can get back to OE ?

So what operating system have you got on "this new PC"?

Thanks Gordon - it's XP Home pre-loaded. I added my own Office 2003, with
OE, but somehow it updated to Outlook.

Umm a slight misunderstanding here - XP Home edition comes with Outlook
Express. Outlook, (NOT Outlook Express) comes as an integral part of Office.
Office does NOT come with Outlook Express - it was already there in your
operating system. In fact it is still there - you cannot remove it in XP. If
you want to have OE as the default mail client, go to Control Panel.
Internet Options-Programs and re-set OE as the default. (Outlook has a habit
of automatically re-setting the Default Email client to itself!)

Thanks again Gordon. All sorted, and OE now the default.

You're welcome. Be aware that if you have Outlook installed, and automatic
updates are turned on, you may get this again when outlook updates!

Cheers, I'll be on guard !
