Any such thing as a freeware voice-to-text program?

Anonymous leapt out of the bath and screamed "EUREKA!" before typing in
alt.comp.freeware:
Does such a utility exist?

The only thing that comes to mind is the full price Dragon "Naturally
Speaking" which "learnt" your voice and translated this to text in MS
Word etc, but I'm not aware of any freebie program myself. Sorry.

James, there are other such commercial programs. But I agree, there's
nothing that I'm aware of in the freeware realm that will do what the OP
wants, and I've looked hard.

Maybe somebody else will have better luck.

I don't reply to trolls like Andy Mabbett or Doc, for instance. No
adware, cdware, commercial software, crippleware, demoware, nagware,
PROmotionware, shareware, spyware, time-limited software, trialware,
viruses or warez for me, please.

Darn.
Thanks for responding---at least now I know to stop looking for a
speech-to-text utility and focus my energies on other topics!

Not MP3 to text but there are still versions of the old MS Dictation program
floating around. It was a speech-to-text program given away freely with an
older version of their SAPI. I can try to dig up a URL if you are
interested.

Michael,
Are you referring to this?

The real address is too long, so I made this TinyURL.

Try here:
http://vhypno.sourceforge.net/download_full.html

Go down to the link for Speech System from Microsoft (SAPI4) - Agents,
Engine and Recognition. This will install an older version of MS Agent on
your machine along with some demonstration technologies, one of which was
Dictation.

Alternately, try searching Google Groups for MS Dictation.

That's ver 5 of the Speech Development Kit. I don't believe that has
Dictation included. I think ver 4 was the last version that included the
dictation program.

Here's a reliable download link for that version then:

http://downloads.pcworld.com/pub/new/graphics_and_multimedia/audio/audio_tools/sapi4sdk.exe

(link may wrap)
